The first two episodes of The Handmaid's Tale saw June (Elisabeth Moss) escape from the clutches of Gilead, aided by what we can only assume are members of the resistance movement, Mayday. According to executive producer Warren Littlefield, that movement will be making some serious waves in Season 2.

"[Mayday] becomes a very important part of Season 2. You can't have a dystopian world like Gilead without expecting a powerful resistance and uprising," Littlefield told TV Guide. "As unfortunately the world we live in struggles with terrorism, it's only appropriate for us to introduce that into the world of Gilead and to show really what those ramifications will be."

When you're fighting against a totalitarian government that has a vice grip on every aspect of its citizens' lives, it goes without saying that extreme measures are the only way to make a dent in Gilead's control, which is exactly what you can expect from this season of The Handmaid's Tale.

But are we supposed to be rooting for these so-called terrorists? According to Littlefield, that's an issue you're supposed to be conflicted about. "Is terrorism against this regime -- is that a good thing? Is that a bad thing? What are the losses against an act of terrorism?"

Those are all questions viewers will have to answer for themselves when Mayday eventually makes its move.

New episodes of The Handmaid's Tale are released every Wednesday on Hulu.
