The End of The Good Place Is Kristen Bell's New Sloth

Remember when we were all really obsessed with Kristen Bell crying about the prospect of meeting a sloth? (It's a meme now; of course you remember it.) Now, the actress has found something else that will make her tear upon command, and it's talking about the upcoming end of NBC's The Good Place.

As the comedy heads into its fourth and final season, the actress -- who plays "Arizona dirtbag" Eleanor Shellstrop -- can't help getting a little bit weepy every time someone brings up the subject. She knows this is happening, too, and called herself out on it during this year's San Diego Comic-Con.

Bell teared up again Wednesday during a panel for The Good Place at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. When her co-stars were asked what it was like working with Bell and TV legend Ted Danson, they offered up glowing praise, which only made Bell cry harder.

"I feel like Ted and Kristen set a tone," William Jackson Harper, who plays Chidi, told the room as Bell wiped her eyes on her skirt, and then later Harper's shirt. "There's no better artist to lead your show, and I see what it is to just sort of live in this place of gratitude for the chances we've been given. There's no people on this planet that are as generous and professional and talented as these two."

"We really got the best possible leaders," D'Arcy Carden, who plays Janet, chimed in. "Just seeing that it is possible to make something that you're so proud of and that the on-set environment can be the way it is. Also, because the heads of every department on our entire crew are as good as these guys. You just have no idea how good it can be until you experience it. Hopefully that all sprinkles down on us, and we get to take that along to whatever we do next and pay it forward."

While the cast joked about Bell's "diva" attitude, Danson explained that it only happens "if you stand in the way of her getting home to put her children to bed because you haven't learned your lines, god help you. She turns [on you]."

But even this attitude struck a chord with Manny Jacinto, who plays Jason. The actor mused, "[Bell and Danson] lead great lives outside of this whole acting world, and it's something to aspire to and really reach for, whether they are involved with their families or their humanitarian work... [it] makes me question how useful of a human being I am." No wonder Bell keeps letting the waterworks flow at the drop of a hat; we'd cry too if Jason Mendoza said things like this about us.

Jameela Jamil also praised series creator Mike Schur. "One thing I've learned is to never make a show without Mike, so I'm probably here to retire. I'm retiring today," she quipped.

At the top of the panel, Bell started crying recalling the phone call she had with Schur when he said the show was ending, and she immediately made him promise to write her another show because she was so distraught at the idea of not working with him in the future. Hopefully, this is still just the beginning of a beautiful working partnership for everyone in the Soul Squad, and we'll see them back together on TV again soon.

The Good Place Season 4 premieres Thursday, Sept. 26 at 9/8c on NBC.
