The Goldbergs: Schoolhouse Rock Fails Adam in Political Debate

And let's just say it doesn't work

I can very much relate to this exclusive clip of The Goldbergs. As a kid of the '80s, television was the only teacher we needed, and the best educational programming came in the form of Schoolhouse Rock, a series of cartoons that taught kids the very basics (emphasis on very basics) of science, math, American government and more.

Obviously Adam Goldberg (Sean Giambrone) took Schoolhouse Rock in since he's a vacuum of nostalgia, but when it comes time to apply what he learned from the short 'toon to political debate, he gets totally busted. The reference is timely, as Schoolhouse Rock composer and performer Bob Dorough recently passed away.

In the episode, "Spaceballs," Adam tries to start a Mel Brooks club after seeing the Star Wars spoof, and Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey), Murray (Jeff Garlin) and Pops (George Segal) visit Erica (Hayley Orrantia) at college on Parents Weekend.

The Goldbergs airs Wednesday nights at 8/7c on ABC.
