The Chi Season 2 Has a Trailer and a Premiere Date

Plus, find out when City on a Hill will debut

Showtime announced the premiere date for the second season of The Chi, Lena Waithe's coming-of-age story about life on the South Side of Chicago, during the network's executive session at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. The Chi Season 2 will premiere on Sunday, April 7 at 10/9c. As if this news wasn't enough, the network also gifted us the official trailer for the new season.

The Chi's first season was one of the best TV offerings of 2018, and its second season will center on Brandon (Jason Mitchell) as he tries to get his food truck business off the ground and Kevin (Alex Hibbert) grapples with all of the trauma he has already experienced at such a young age.

Showtime also announced premiere plans for its new one-hour drama series City on a Hill, featuring an FBI vet named Jackie Rohr (Kevin Bacon) teaming up with District Attorney Decourcy Ward (Aldis Hodge) as the two try to tackle corruption in the Boston criminal justice circuit in the '90s. The 10-episode series will premiere on Sunday, June 16 at 9/8c.

Meanwhile, the cable network will also roll out Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men, its four-part documentary series on the New York hip-hop group that was founded in the early '90s, on Friday, May 10 at 9/8c. The following month, Showtime will debut XY Chelsea, its documentary film about the former Army soldier who was imprisoned for revealing classified information to WikiLeaks in 2013 and served time in prison before her sentence was commuted by by President Obama in 2017 as one of his last acts in office. XY Chelsea will air Friday, June 7 at 9/8c.

In addition to those news bits, Showtime revealed that Paco Cabezas has been tapped to direct several episodes of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, the forthcoming follow-up to Penny Dreadfulthat will be set in, as the title suggests, Los Angeles in 1938. Cabezas previously directed several episodes of Penny Dreadful's third season.
