Uh, The Bachelor's Bekah Was Apparently a Missing Person Until Yesterday

This is a truly weird story

We're used to weird stories from Bachelor contestants' personal lives -- you don't go on this show if you're a drama-averse person -- but this is one of the stranger ones we've heard: Bekah Martinez, the breakout fan-favorite of Arie's in-progress season, was reported as a missing person in Humboldt County, California around the time she was filming the show. Let me try to explain.

On Thursday, Humboldt County's North Coast Journal posted a story about the 35 people currently reported missing and unidentified in the county that included photos and a request for information on any of the missing persons. One of those people, it turned out, was Bekah Martinez, who is not only not missing but sharing her up-to-the-minute whereabouts with the ~15ok Instagram followers she's picked up thanks to the exposure to millions of people she's gotten from The Bachelor. The Journal relayed this info to the Sheriff's Office, who got in touch with Bekah. She is no longer listed as a missing person. It seems there are no Bachelor fans at the paper or in the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office.

Bekah was reported missing on Nov. 18, 2017 by her mother, who reportedly hadn't heard from her since Nov. 12. Bekah apparently went to Humboldt County to work on a cannabis farm, which seems like something Bekah would do. This would have been around the time her time on The Bachelor came to an end (the show films from September to November).

Apparently her mother wasn't checking Bekah's Instagram, on which she regularly posted starting Nov. 22 after a two-month gap during which she was on The Bachelor and didn't have a phone. She apparently wasn't calling her mom, but she wasn't exactly missing.

Bekah commented on Friday with some characteristically devil-may-care tweets:

The Bachelor airs Mondays at 8/7c on ABC.
