Taken 2 easily took the top spot at the weekend box office.

The Liam Neeson action film grossed an estimated $50 million in its first weekend of release, doubling the opening weekend totals for the first Taken film in 2009, according to Box Office Mojo. Last weekend's No. 1 film, Hotel Transylvania, fell to second with $26.3 million.

After impressing in its limited-run opening last week, Pitch Perfect expanded to 2,770 theaters and nabbed $14.7 million to take third place. Looper followed in fourth place, snatching $12.2 million. The weekend's other major new release, Tim Burton's Frankenweenie, debuted at No. 5, scaring up $11.5 million.

In sixth place, End of Watch drummed up $4 million. Trouble with the Curvefollowed in seventh place with $3.8 million.

Rounding out the top 10: House at the End of the Street (No. 8, $3.7 million), The Master (No. 9, $1.8 million) and Finding Nemo 3D (No. 10, $1.5 million).
