Survivor: Who Got Pulled From the Game?

It was déjà vu on Survivor: Caramoan — Fans vs. Favorites this week.

The Fans tribe was once again in disarray after last week's Tribal Council, when a plan to vote Shamar off the island fell apart at the last minute and Hope was sent home instead. During the screaming match that opened the episode, Shari and Eddie got in each other's faces about the decision. "We got rid of Hope tonight because she was the prettiest one here, and she was a threat to everybody because of that," Eddie said about his former ally in a cutaway interview. "Laura can't lift 20 pounds. ... She is the weakest link on our team. I really don't care too much for any of these people right now."

He had reason to be worried. With Eddie and Reynold's foursome now down to two, they were the next two on the chopping block — but Reynold still had the hidden immunity idol.

For the first time this season, the episode included two challenges. The favorites won the first and earned a reward in the form of a diminutive local bushman ("a Filipino Gollum," according to Malcolm), who cooked a feast for the tribe and also offered them tips for how to prepare food for themselves and reinforce their camp.

After the loss — the third in a row for the Fans — Reynold insisted that Laura would have to be eliminated if they were going to start winning challenges. But others turned their ire once again to Shamar, who continued his napping regimen and told his teammates he would only stay in the game if they brought him rice once a day while he stayed in the hut. So, once again, it seemed as if Shamar would be voted off. That is, if he didn't quit first. But, wait. After getting sand in his eye, Shamar was paid a visit by host Jeff Probst and a medical team. After discovering "divots" in Shamar's cornea that could affect his vision, the aides recommended pulling him from the game (to the relief of his teammates).

"I did two tours in Iraq and never got hurt," Shamar said. "Survivor's a tough game."

With their tribe down to seven, the Fans found themselves on the losing end again at the next immunity challenge. Though Reynold and Eddie were the obvious targets to get voted off, Matt acted as the voice of reason and pointed out that their physical strength would serve the team well in future competitions. Reynold was skeptical, thinking that the rest of the tribe members may have been trying to get him to play the immunity idol so they could vote out Eddie. Laura also knew she was in danger, and admitted, "The only thing I can do at this point is trust in my alliance."

Unfortunately, it didn't serve her well. When it came down to loyalty versus practicality, the players opted to hedge their bets on future victories and voted Laura out. Reynold played his hidden immunity idol before Probst read the votes, but it ended up being a wasted move.
