Supergirl has cast Tyler Hoechlin as the Man of Steel. The Teen Wolfalum will play Superman in the show's second season, Varietyreports.

"Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said in a statement. "We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character."

Hoechlin will reportedly make his debut as Kara's (Melissa Benoist) cousin Clark Kent in the opening scene of Supergirl's premiere, which will make the move from CBS to The CW this fall. Superman is currently only slated for the first two episodes of the season, but there's always the chance for Hoechlin to recur.

That would open up the possibility of Hoechlin running across former Superman Brandon Routh, who played the iconic hero in the 2006 filmSuperman Returns , in a crossover with Supergirl's sister show Legends of Tomorrow.
