Apparently, nothing brings together a pair of rival network late-night hosts quite like The NeverEnding Story's theme song.

On Monday night's episode of The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon and The Late Show's Stephen Colbert teamed up to recreate that musical scene from Stranger Things 3, and the two put Dusty-bun (Gaten Matarazzo) and Suzie-poo (Gabriella Pizzolo) to shame. Never mind the fact that Colbert's voice was totally flat or that Fallon was pretty pitchy -- in this duet, it was their childlike dedication to the number that really sang.

Of course, the two may have feigned surprise at being compared to Stranger Things; for them, it was something they just did to send each other well wishes for a good show. But their rendition is the latest installment in the so-called "NeverEnding Challenge," originated by Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown a few days after Stranger Things 3 premiered on Netflix.

Since her posting, tons of fans have put their video cameras on front mode to capture themselves singing along to the wholesome earworm.

British pop star Limahl, who originally recorded the tune for the 1984 fantasy film, told Entertainment Weekly that he was touched by the on-screen tribute in Stranger Things 3. "It's been very exciting to hear about all the new interest in the song," he said. "Thirty-five years later, it's reaching a whole new audience -- it's fantastic."

Stranger Things 3 is now available on Netflix.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon airs weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on NBC. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on CBS.
