CBS All Access has renewed the period drama Strange Angel for a second season, the streaming service announced Monday. The series tells the stranger than fiction true story of Jack Parsons, a brilliant engineer who pioneered America's rocketry program by day while leading an occult sect that practiced sex magick rituals by night.

The series stars Jack Reynor as Parsons, Rupert Friend as Parsons' neighbor who introduces him to the occult and Bella Heathcote as Parsons' wife Susan. Season 2 will find the U.S. fully engaged in World War II, transforming Parsons' rocketry work into a lucrative business and further entrenching him in the military-industrial complex. While Parsons' career takes off, he and his wife Susan's devotion to their new occult religion grows, leading them to invite the sex cult into their Pasadena mansion and to forge a personal relationship with the group's notorious founder, Aleister Crowley himself.

Who Is Strange Angel's Jack Parsons, the Stranger Than Fiction Scientist?

The 10-episode first season premiered in June. The show's executive producers told TV Guide that they plan to tell the story over the course of five seasons or so.

Strange Angel Season 1 is available to stream on CBS All Access.

(Full disclosure: TV Guide is owned by CBS.)
