The Lyons better keep an eye out.

Fox has ordered Star, a new pilot from Empireco-creator Lee Daniels, the network announced Thursday at the Television Critics Association fall previews. Set in Atlanta, Star will tell the story of three ambitious young women who form a girl band.

"[Daniels] talks about Dreamgirls to modern-day girl groups that have been manufactured ... who are not tied to each other," Fox Television Group co-chairman and CEO Dana Walden said. "That lends itself to great, soap operatic storytelling."

In contrast to Empire, which is told from the perspective of the machine that makes music, Star will be told from the performer's point of view. Walden said that it's possible for Star and Empire to cross over at some point, but there are no current plans at this time. Casting for the pilot will begin soon.
