Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag are not quite newlyweds as the two have yet to legalize their quickie Mexican wedding stateside — and it's all Pratt's fault.
In the final minutes of The Hills finale Monday night, Speidi headed to a Beverly Hills courthouse to officially take the plunge. Montag made it through her vows, but Pratt suddenly had a change of heart.
"I feel like we're doing something sneaky and shady," he told Montag as she broke down in tears. "I just want to give you the wedding of your dreams that you have been talking about for three years. I'll deal with it. It's worth it to be with you the rest of my life. We'll do it the way you want, I'm sorry, I love you so much."
After questions arose regarding the legality of their Nov. 19 Mexican elopement, the couple pledged to make it legit in the U.S.
During that time, Montag's mother, Darlene Egelhoff, lashed out at Pratt for controlling his daughter's life, accused him of drugging her and called the, er, nuptials, "the biggest mistake Heidi's ever made."
She continued to voice her disapproval in the finale, telling her almost son-in-law, "I know you manipulated and plotted this whole wedding. It's too fast, too much."
Or not enough. On the after-show, Montag and Pratt confirmed they are planning their big-bash wedding, sure to be captured on a future season of The Hills.
"Things are better since we didn't legalize the wedding," Pratt said. "Now I can live throughout 2009. They didn't show the look of death in her [mom's] eyes on the episode!"
And so, the Speidi saga continues. Will they ever really get married? And who will care?
