Former Southern Charm star Thomas Ravenel was arrested on Tuesday and charged with assault and battery in the second degree, Charleston County jail records show.

Ravenel became the focus of a police investigation in the spring after two women accused him of sexual assault. In April, Ashley Perkins came forward with claims that her mother Debbie Hollaway Perkins was sexually assaulted by Ravenel on a date in December 2015. Following Perkins' public accusations against Ravenel, Dawn Ledwell, the former nanny of his two children with Southern Charm co-star Kathryn Dennis, filed a police report in May accusing Ravenel of sexually assaulting her in January 2015.

Although the details surrounding Ravenel's arrest are unconfirmed at this time, People and E! News both report that it is connected to Ledwell's allegations.

Ravenel, who denies the allegations against him, starred on the first five seasons of the Bravo series before officially announcing his exit in August. In the wake of the public accusations, Ravenel didn't appear in the Season 5 reunion, during which time host Andy Cohen read a statement from Ravenel's attorney.

"Along with Bravo, our client made the mutual decision not to attend today's reunion taping as there is a pending investigation," the statement read. "Our client is fully cooperating with authorities on that investigation. He expects to be completely vindicated once the investigation is concluded. He sends his best regards to his fans and his fellow cast mates."

In addition to his role on Southern Charm, Ravenel is a former South Caroline state treasurer who was forced to resign in 2007 after he was indicted on federal cocaine distribution charges.

Ravenel is not the only Southern Charm star to be accused of sexual assault. In August, a report was filed against Ravenel's close friend J.D. Madison in which an unnamed woman alleges that Madison drugged and sexually assaulted her in August 2017.
