Sony is cutting the cord on PlayStation Vue.

The company announced on Tuesday morning that PlayStation Vue will shut down early next year. PlayStation Vue, a live TV and on-demand pay TV service that functioned as an alternative to cable, first launched in 2015 and offers 80 channels. As of May, the service had over 800,000 total subscribers, per The Hollywood Reporter.

"Unfortunately, the highly competitive Pay TV industry, with expensive content and network deals, has been slower to change than we expected," Sony Interactive Entertainment deputy president John Kodera said in a statement. "Because of this, we have decided to remain focused on our core gaming business."

Kodera added that although PlayStation Vue is coming to an end, subscribers can still access movies and television shows through the PlayStation store on PS4 and its available entertainment apps.

PlayStation Vue will come to an end Jan. 30, 2020.
