Saturday Night Liveclosed out 2014 this weekend with an alum-filled show that lampooned the Sony hack, singer Sam Smith and the NPR podcast "Serial."

With host Amy Adams taking the reins, the show also featured the welcome returns of Kristen Wiig, Fred Armisen and Mike Myers -- who appeared as Dr. Evil in the episode's brilliant cold open. And, demonstrating that they really are good sports (though maybe not the best comedians), musical guests One Direction also appeared in a sketch.

Who are the best SNL cast members of all time?

SNL returns with new episodes on Jan. 17, with host Kevin Hart.

Check out highlights from the holiday episode below:

Sam Smith/Dr. Evil cold open:Taran Killam does a literally pitch-perfect impression of Sam Smith, who's hosting the special "A Very Somber Christmas with Sam Smith" ... until it's interrupted by Dr. Evil (Myers), who mocks the group claiming responsibility for the recent hacks into Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Amy Adams Christmas monologue:Kristen Wiig crashes Amy Adams' opening monologue, bringing with her a group of "Christmas hunks" (and a Christmas tree hat) to spread a little a lot of holiday cheer.

Christmas Serial:Probably the best sketch of the night features Cecily Strong as NPR podcast host Sarah Koenig, who's conducting a special investigation into "Kris," a mysterious figure who claims to deliver packages to millions of households around the world in a single night.

Girlfriends Talk Show:Morgan (Aidy Bryant) and Kyra (Strong) get a surprise visit from the head of their school's dance squad (Adams), with her incredibly attractive male dancers (One Direction) in tow.

Garth & Kat sing Hanukkah songs:Garth and Kat are back! Wiig and Armisen's perpetually ill-prepared duo return to the "Weekend Update" desk, this time singing songs about the Festival of Lights.
