CBS is eyeing NBC Today show vet Matt Lauer as a possible successor to Dan Rather, Newsweek reports. The network is also considering Lauer's colleague, Meet the Press host Tim Russert. Such scenarios are considered long shots, however, since both Lauer and Russert are in the midst of lengthy contracts with NBC. Plus, I'm pretty sure 6:30 pm is way past Lauer's bedtime.
