Scarlett Johansson Wins Defamation Lawsuit Against French Author
Scarlett Johansson was awarded $3,400 in damages this week stemming from a lawsuit she filed against French author Gregoire Delacourt, whose 2013 novel The First Thing We Look At features a character who bears a strong resemblance to Johansson and is treated like "a sex object," The Associated Foreign Press reports.

On Wednesday, a French court ordered Delacourt to pay Johansson 2,500 euros, though the actress originally had sought 50,000 euros ($70,000) in damages, according to the AFP.

One male character in the book mistakenly believes the female protagonist in the book is Johansson when he first sees her. The character has several romantic relationships in the novel, which the court concluded is "hurtful and demeaning" to the real-life Johansson's reputation.
Johansson was also seeking an injunction to prevent the book from being translated or adapted into a film, but that was thrown out by the court.
