Matt Damon Plays a Shouty, Sniffly Brett Kavanaugh in Saturday Night Live Cold Open

Saturday Night Live kicked off its 44th season with a cold open featuring Matt Damon as embattled Supreme Court nominee/'80s movie villain Brett Kavanaugh.

"We've heard from the alleged victim, but now it's time to hear from the hero, Judge Brett Kavanaugh," introduced Senator Chuck Grassley, played by cast member Alex Moffat.

Damon's Kavanaugh, who was allegedly spotted shadowboxing in the men's room for 45 minutes prior to his appearance, promised to "start at an 11... take it to about a 15 real quick." The cold open revisited some of Kavanaugh's most frustrating/enraging/cringe-worthy moments of Thursday's Senate hearing, including that infamous exchange with Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar (portrayed by SNL alum Rachel Dratch) in which Klobuchar asked Kavanaugh if he ever blacked out from drinking and Kavanaugh belligerently asked if the senator herself ever blacked out from drinking.

Way to dodge, brah.

Damon's Kavanaugh went on to say that he doesn't understand the meaning of the word "stop" to uncomfortable laughter because reality and satire are one and the same right now, this is the darkest timeline and definitely the Bad Place.

Anyway, if like me, you spent Thursday internally screaming at the events of the day, revisit them with the Saturday Night Live cast and take solace in the fact that even though the Supreme Court is poised to soon set women's rights back 50 years, we can at least mock them while they do it. For now.
