Sam Witwer: The New Vampire in Town

As a proud sci-fi geek, you'd think that Sam Witwer (Smallville, Battlestar Galactica) would jump at the chance to play Aidan, a sexy 257-year-old bloodsucker in Syfy's reworking of Being Human, the BBC hit about three supernatural roomies. As it turns out, not so much.
TV Guide Magazine: Vamps are all the rage. You didn't want to join all the neck-biting fun?
Witwer: Not at first! I stopped reading the script when I realized I'd be playing a vampire. I just wasn't into it. Then a friend told me to reconsider. She saved me from making the worst mistake of my career. I finished reading it and loved it immediately. I guess it's inevitable, considering how pale I am, that I'd play a vampire.
TV Guide Magazine: How would you describe Aidan?
Witwer: He's a recovering blood addict. After spending two centuries as a drugged-out sociopath, he decided to quit. But he can't do it alone, so he becomes roommates with a newly turned werewolf.
TV Guide Magazine: So it's dark and creepy?
Witwer: We can go real dark, but there's humor, too, which is great because at Juilliard everyone thought I'd just do comedy. And it's been all about the drama!
Being Human premieres Monday at 9/8c on Syfy.
