Fans attending the Comic-Con panel for the CW's upcoming Vampire Diaries spin-off Legacies got a special treat Saturday, with a surprise first look at the network's upcoming Roswell reboot Roswell, New Mexico, seen here via TVLine.

Roswell, New Mexico takes the romantic sci-fi structure of the 1999 WB series Roswell and updates it for 2018 (or 2019, which is probably when the show will premiere). It stars Grey's Anatomy's Jeanine Mason as Liz Ortecho, a biomedical researcher and daughter of undocumented immigrants who moves back to Roswell and rekindles her relationship with her high school love Max (The Originals' Nathan Parsons). The catch is that Max is an alien who crash-landed in Roswell in 1947.

Everything You Need to Know About The CW's Roswell Reboot

The trailer promises forbidden romance of the Twilight variety. And it looks like Liz is going to find out Max is an alien sooner rather than later, since she's going to want to know how she got resurrected after being shot in the heart. (This happened in the original series, too, so the reboot is staying true to the source material.)

Roswell, New Mexico is coming to the CW at midseason.

(Full disclosure: TV Guide is owned by CBS, one of the CW's parent companies.)
