Those invisible injuries are the most dangerous ones, you know? Though it seemed Maura (Sasha Alexander) escaped the shooting at Korsak's wedding with a minor head wound on Rizzoli & Isles, Monday's season premiere revealed that she actually suffered a subdural hematoma. And now she's like us mere earthlings, mixing up her peroneal veins with her brachiocephalic veins.

Catch up on all this week's Mega Buzz!

Don't fret too much. We'd bet good money on Maura making a good -- if not full -- recovery during the final season, but perhaps her promised "satisfying" ending includes moving on from being Boston's top medical examiner. After all, the injury is all part of showrunner Jan Nash's plan to zap her heroines of their "superpowers" and force them to re-evaluate their lives.
"Maura's great gift is her giant brain," she tells TVGuide.com. "What does it mean to this character if in fact she can't use it fully? Is she defined by her ability to know everything? [She's] asking questions that we all ask ourselves. We all make decisions in our lives. It's 'I made a choice at a moment in time for very good reasons, but is that choice still relevant to me?'"
