The cast and crew of Riverdale are promising "A Night to Remember" with the Carrie: The Musical event.

The episode will put the singing and dancing talents -- yes, even KJ Apa will bust a move -- to the test. TV Guide took a trip to Vancouver to visit the set of Riverdale while they were filming the episode to get the inside scoop on how the special episode came together.

As episode director Jason Stone relays in our behind the scenes video, the events of Carrie: The Musical will actually mirror what's happening to the characters in Riverdale leading up to opening night. Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) embodies the titular character after spending her own time in an institution and having to rebel against an oppressive mother. Betty (Lili Reinhart) is the nice girl trying to figure out the right thing to do, while Alice (Madchen Amick) finds her own dark relations to Carrie's mother. And Kevin (Casey Cott) has to try and keep them all in line as the director of the production.

Despite the relation to the source material, actually nailing the intricacies of putting on a musical was a huge undertaking. On top of learning their lines, we learned the cast also had to squeeze in recording sessions and choreography rehearsals into their intense filming schedule.

"The most challenging part of this episode is also the most fun," Cott said of the process. "This is the hardest we've ever worked. You're doing dance, singing, recordings, dance rehearsals and shooting all at the same time, but it's been honestly the most fun I've ever had."

Riverdale is full of natural singers like Camila Mendes and Ashleigh Murray, but did you know that Shannon Purser, who recurs as Ethel on The CW soap, has also been singing all her life? Despite that vast experience, she found combining her love of singing with the choreography for the show very challenging.

Watch the cast rise to that challenge when the Riverdale musical episode airs Wednesday at 8/7c on The CW.
