No one remembers who wins anyway, right?
Taking a photo with an Emmy is just like winning an Emmy.
So declared Ricky Gervais at Sunday night's award ceremony, where he was presenting for best supporting actor in a comedy series.
"Back again!" he said as he ascended the stage. "To lose another one. Go on. I haven't lost yet. Still hope. There's no hope."
But, as he pointed out, "no one remembers" who wins anyway.
"In a few days' time, people will see a picture of me up here and they'll go, 'Well, he won then,'" Gervais said.
Emmys red carpet: See what all the stars are wearing!
"In fact, can I have an Emmy?" he asked. "Where's the Emmy girl? Can I get an Emmy?"
A woman backstage obliged his request and handed over one of the statues.

"So take a picture of that," he said, hoisting it in the air. "Tweet that, and, uh, Bob's your uncle. Right." Then he made a few winner-appropriate faces, cycling through laughter, tears, and solemn pride.

You're an Emmy winner in our hearts, Ricky! (And possibly for real later tonight -- he's up for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie for Derek.)
