CBS' already-canceled Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior hobbled to the finish, with its penultimate episode finishing second in total viewership to the season finale of the renewed Law & Order: Special Victims Unit at 10/9c. Minds' 8.35 million viewers wasn't enough to top SVU's 8.73 million. ABC managed 3.44 million for two half-hours of Happy Endings in prime time's last hour.
Three finalists each sang three songs on Wednesday's two-hour American Idol performance show, which, at 23.03 million viewers and a 7.2 rating among 18-to-49-year-olds (up from last week's 22.37 million and 6.9), easily won both the 8 and 9 o'clock hours.
In prime time's first hour, a fresh episode of ABC's The Middle grabbed 7.66 million viewers at 8/7c (and 5.89 million with a rerun that followed at 8:30) vs. NBC's Minute to Win It (3.47 million) and a repeat of the CW's America's Next Top Model (1.21 million).
At 9/8c, the season finale of Criminal Minds attracted 12.53 million viewers. Modern Family on ABC had a viewership of 10.08 million, followed by Cougar Town at 9:30 with 5.38 million. A Minute rerun had 2.90 million, while Model's season-ender lured 1.83 million.
