Rain Check? Obama Nixes SNL Visit Due to Hurricane

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, who was to appear on Saturday Night Live's season premiere this weekend, has postponed his visit due to the landfall of Hurricane Ike, which arrived in Texas Saturday morning."In light of the unfolding crisis in Texas, Sen. Obama has decided it is no longer appropriate to appear on Saturday Night Live," the Reporter quotes a spokesperson for the Obama campaign as saying. SNL exec producer Lorne Michaels explains the decision further, telling Politico.com that if Ike gets serious, "The tone of the show will shift, and it would be inappropriate for the senator to do if it looks in any way like it's going to be a tragedy." Obama's SNL appearance, his first since last November, will be rescheduled for a later time. Michael Phelps will host the season opener, with musical guest Lil Wayne. — Matt Mitovich
