[WARNING: This story contains major spoilers from Wednesday's series finale of Psych. Read at your own risk — and preferably with a side of pineapple!]

Even a pesky multiple murder mystery couldn't deter Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Dulé Hill) from making some major life decisions on the series finale of Psych. After the introduction of new head detective Betsy Brannigan earlier this season, it started to become very clear that the Santa Barbara Police Department no longer had use for Psych. Although Shawn could see the writing on the wall clearly — and even though Gus had already moved on to his fancy new job with his fancy new work car and his fancy new workplace kitchen — Shawn couldn't bear to break the news to his BFF.

So instead of manning up and breaking the truth to his friend in person, Shawn goes the much more complicated route and films video messages for Gus, as well as Lassiter, Woodrow, and his dad, Henry. "I accept this is my fatal flaw. I just can't quite engage all the way when I really need to, when it really matters, when the chips are down," Shawn tells Gus in an emotional message he leaves for Gus only after he's already left town. Shawn assures Gus that he's going to be "better than fine" because Shawn has been kept from the life he deserved.

Psych stars and creator say goodbye and leave the door open for a possible movie

Although the video message to Gus is a lovely scene, the best message by far is the one to the oft-mentioned, but never seen Dobson, who is revealed to be none other than ... Val Kilmer! "We didn't get to speak nearly as much as I ever would have liked, but I heard more about you than anyone ever could. You sound heroic. The kind of guy that I could have worshipped as a child, and an adolescent, well into my 20s," Shawn says.

Shawn's video message to Lassiter is also revealing in that Shawn tries to come clean about his psychic abilities. But as he starts to say, "the truth is, I am not..." at which point Lassiter takes the DVD out and breaks it in half.

Obviously, the video goodbye does not do Gus and Shawn's friendship justice, and Gus ends up abruptly leaving his job, then trying to go back, then really leaving and arriving in San Francisco just in time to interrupt Shawn declaring his intention to start his life with Juliet immediately. "I'm an adventurer now with a friendship for the ages and if I have to live in another city to make that happen, then so be it," Gus declares.

However, Shawn still tops Gus' declaration when he proposes to Juliet outside of a crime scene. "Jules, will you marry us? Me, mostly me, even though Gus is always going to be part of the deal," he asks. "Yes, I will marry the crap out of you, Shawn Spencer," she responds. However, the proposal ends with some random thief running by and snatching Shawn's grandmother's ring right out of his hand. Shawn, Gus and Juliet drop into a car to speed after the culprit as the show fades to black. "I wanted the end of the show to be: This is not the end of all of it. These guys are still going out and having these adventures somewhere else. It's just not being put on television right now," creator and executive producer Steve Franks told TVGuide.com last week about the finale. "For me, it was always that — it was about continuing. I knew that the last minute is them racing off on another case."

So what did you think of Psych's finale? Do you like the way that it ended? What will you miss about the show?
