PSY Readies First Album Since "Gangnam Style"

South Korean singer PSY is releasing his first album since his song "Gangnam Style" became an international superhit in 2012.

He says that the pressure to follow up "Gangnam Style," which became the most-viewed YouTube video of all time with 2.46 billion streams, made him take his time while crafting his new album Chiljip PSY-Da. "There were many thoughts going around in my head, including thoughts like, 'If I write like this, it would be not as good as 'Gangnam Style,' and 'If I write like this, the international audience will not understand,' so it took me a very long time to organize all those thoughts into one," he said at a news conference on Monday.

The album is designed to appeal to a worldwide audience. PSY said the lyrics to first single "Daddy" were "tailored more to towards reaching the overseas audience than fitting exactly what my Korean fans were expecting from me." According to Asia News, the video for the song was screened at the conference and contains a repeated English line in the chorus "Where'd you get that body from/I got it from my daddy." The videos for "Daddy" and "Napal Baji (Bellbottoms)" were also released Monday.

Chiljip PSY-Da, Korean for "This Is PSY's Seventh Album," comes more than three years after Psy 6 (Six Rules), Part 1, the first half of a planned two-part album. The second half was never released.
