PROOF OF FAILURE

Russell Crowe and Meg Ryan's high profile yet short-lived love affair was to blame for their film, Proof of Life, tanking at the box office. "It had an indelible and very destructive effect on the release of the film in the U.S. because the real life story overpowered the film," Proof director Taylor Hackford told reporters prior to the film's London premiere. Crowe, meanwhile, spoke out for the first time about his break-up with Ryan. "[She] is a beautiful and courageous woman, and I grieve the loss of her companionship," he said.
