Brad Pitt on Jennifer Aniston Marriage: I Was Wasting Opportunity

Brad Pitt says he was burnt out from drug use during his marriage to Jennifer Aniston. Although Pitt doesn't reference his ex-wife directly, in the new issue of Esquire, the 49-year-old actor says, "For a long time I thought I did too much damage — drug damage. I was a bit of a drifter. ... But then I got burnt out and felt that I was wasting my opportunity. It was a conscious change. ... This was about a decade ago. It was an epiphany." Pitt and Aniston, who started dating in 1998, divorced in 2005 after five years of marriage.

Angelina Jolie reveals she underwent a double mastectomy

Pitt has spoken out about his first marriage before. In 2011, Pitt told Parade, "I started to get sick of myself sitting on a couch, holding a joint, hiding out. It started feeling pathetic . . . I think my marriage had something to do with it; trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn't."

Soon after the divorce, Pitt revealed he was dating his Mr. and Mrs. Smith co-star Angelina Jolie. The couple, who has been engaged since last year, has six children.
