So much more drama!
As the drama of Downton Abbey fades into our collective memories, PBS is also moving on. The network has renewed its Civil War-era drama Mercy Street for a second season, it was announced Wednesday. The period drama, which stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Josh Radnor and follows the chaotic lives of the men and women at the Mansion House Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia during the war, will return for six new episodes in 2017.
Why Downton Abbey delivered a perfect ending
Mercy Street is PBS's first original drama in more than a decade. According to the public broadcaster, the series premiere in January was watched by 5.7 million viewers. In comparison, the Downton Abbey series finale on Sunday drew an average of 9.6 million viewers despite the fact the series wrapped up months ago across the pond.
