It looks like Paul Bettany won't be appearing in Season 3 of The Crown after all.

It was previously reported that Bettany would portray Prince Philip in the Netflix series' third season, taking over the role from Matt Smith. However, according to BBC America, the British actor will not step into the role of the Duke of Edinburgh.

While it's currently unclear who will portray Prince Philip in the upcoming season, Olivia Colman will play Queen Elizabeth II now that Claire Foy has finished her tenure as the monarch. Helena Bonham Carter is also set become Princess Margaret, taking over for Vanessa Kirby.

The new season will see Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip and Princess Margaret take on new personal and political struggles as they enter middle age.

Netflix has not yet responded to our request for comment on Philip's casting.

Seasons 1 and 2 of The Crown are currently available to stream on Netflix.
