Patrick Warburton -- best known as David Puddy, Elaine Benes' on-again off-again boyfriend on Seinfeld -- has been cast as the titular narrator in Netflix's Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events.

The eight-episode series, based on the young adult novels by Daniel Handler, is a reboot of the stalled film franchise (a successful Series of Unfortunate Events movie starring Jim Carrey came out in 2004, but plans for sequels never panned out). Warburton takes over for Jude Law, who voiced Lemony Snicket in the film. Warburton will presumably bring a very different energy to the part and will appear on camera. He's joining a cast that includes Neil Patrick Harris, Malina Weissman and Louis Hynes.

The project reunites Warburton with director Barry Sonnenfeld, who previously executive-produced Warburton's cult classic series The Tick, which is also getting an online revival at Amazon.

Warburton currently stars on NBC's new series Crowded, which premieres Tuesday.
