Olympics: Russia Pokes Fun at Opening Ceremony Misfire During Closing Ceremony

The 2014 Winter Olympics — the costliest games in Olympic history, according to NBC — have officially come to an end. The theme of Sunday's Closing Ceremony was "Reflections of Russia," and it featured tributes to Russian musicians, writers and important cultural figures. Delegations from each participating country also paraded through the ceremony, and medals were awarded for some of the final events, including women's and men's cross-country skiing.

2014 Winter Olympics: The most memorable moments

Russian officials took the opportunity to poke a little fun at themselves as well, replicating a malfunction that prevented the fifth Olympic ring from lighting up at the Opening Ceremony.

To close out the event, the giant bear that was a mascot of the Sochi Games blew out the Olympic torch.

The Closing Ceremony also featured the ceremonial hand-off, with Sochi Mayor Anatoly Pakhomov turning the Olympic flag over to International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach, who in turn gave it to Lee Sok-ra, the mayor of Pyeongchang, South Korea, where the 2018 winter games will be held.

Overall, Russia led the way at the 2014 Winter Games with a medal count of 33, 13 of which were gold. The United States came in second with 28, though only 9 were gold. Norway earned 11 gold medals out of 26 total, and Canada earned 10 gold medals and 25 overall.
