Olsen Twins Respond to Intern Lawsuit

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have issued a response to a wage theft lawsuit filed against them by a former intern, calling her claims "groundless."

A spokesperson for the Olsen twins' company, Dualstar, issued the following statement Wednesday, according to The Hollywood Reporter: "Dualstar is an organization that is committed to treating all individuals fairly and in accordance with all applicable laws. The allegations in the complaint filed against Dualstar are groundless, and Dualstar will vigorously defend itself against plaintiff's claims in court, not before the media. Dualstar is confident that once the true facts of this case are revealed, the lawsuit will be dismissed in its entirety."

In the class-action lawsuit, lead plaintiff Shahista Lalani, who previously worked as an intern for the twins' fashion line, claims that she worked 50-hour weeks for no pay, performing tasks that included running personal errands for paid staff members. Lalani says 40 past and present interns worked or are working for free, and the lawsuit demands that Dualstar pay its interns minimum wage and overtime.
