Netflix announced at Sunday's TCA panel that Oscar winner Octavia Spencer would star in an eight-episode limited series Madam C.J. Walker, centering on America's first black, self-made female millionaire who earned her fortune as a hair care pioneer at the turn of the 20th century. Spencer will appear as the eponymous mogul, whose real name was Sarah Breedlove, and the series will be based upon A'Leia Bundles' book On Her Own Ground, with Janine Sherman Barrois and Elle Johnson joining Spencer as executive producers.

The streaming service also announced a second new scripted series called White Lines, centering on one sister's investigation of her DJ brother's death, 20 years after his disappearance, on the festive and at-times wild island of Ibiza. The series hails from La Casa De Papel's Alex Pina and will be executive-produced by The Crown's Andy Harries and Sharon Hughff, alongside Pina and Christina Lopez Ferez.

Netflix also added two new unscripted series to its forthcoming roster of shows. First, there'll be The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell, centering on the menagerie of strange (but delicious) confections of its title chef and artist. That series is appropriately being produced by the Jim Henson Company, whose wildest puppets would fit right into her land of edible enchantments. Then, an entirely different cooking show called Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat will launch on October 19th, featuring chef and author Samin Nosrat in a four-part series trekking to locales like Italy, Japan, and more to examine what are the basic principles of delicious dishes.

Meanwhile, Netflix also announced the release dates for the following:
