Nickelodeon has ordered a live-action adaptation of the 2003 film School of Rock, the network announced Monday.

School of Rock will follow the misadventures of Dewey Finn (played in the film by Jack Black), a down-on-his-luck rocker who poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school and teaches his eccentric, unconventional and overachieving students to play and love rock 'n' roll. The film featured talented young performers, including Miranda Cosgrove, who later went on to star on another Nickelodeon series, iCarly.

"School of Rock is one of those great movies that always felt quintessentially Nickelodeon in its tone and humor, and we jumped at the opportunity to partner with Paramount Television and bring it to life as a TV series," Russell Hicks, Nickelodeon's president of content and development, said in a statement. "Once again, kids will be able to laugh and rock!"

The musical comedy has been ordered for 13 episodes and is slated to premiere in spring 2015. Casting will soon be announced.
