All hail our streaming overlord
It looks like Netflix is going to keep throwing original shows and movies at you until you give up and bow down to it.
The streaming monster will have an absurd number of original TV shows and movies available this year, playing into its "resistance is futile" strategy in gaining subscribers around the globe. According to Netflix CFO David Wells, who spoke at a Morgan Stanley conference on tech and media, the company expects around 700 original shows and movies available on its service in 2018, reports Variety. 700!
"Let's continue to add content -- it's working, it's driving growth," he said. When asked about how much spending on content is enough for Netflix, Wells said "there's no magic line where you know exactly where you are." OK, but 700? We'd like to see the outdoors at least once this year, Dave.
Here's How Everyone in Netflix's Dark Is Connected
Netflix previously earmarked $8 billion for original content this year, and it looks like it's going to use all of it. Wells also pointed to the international offerings from the company, and cited 80 foreign-language productions -- like Germany's mind-bending Dark -- as part of the company's growth.
