NBC will live-stream all events of the upcoming Sochi Olympics except the opening ceremony, Variety reports.
"We want to put context to it, with the full pageantry it deserves," Mark Lazarus, chairman of NBC Sports Group, said.
Winter TV's must-see new shows
According to Lazarus, a live stream of the ceremony wouldn't make sense without description. Instead, NBC will broadcast the four-hour event on Friday, Feb. 7 starting at 7:30/6:30c. Matt Lauer, Meredith Vieira and Bob Costas will host, while New Yorker editor David Remnick will act as a special correspondent.
"We are looking to maximize the viewing experience for our audience," said Lazarus, who added the NBC would most likely tease viewers by putting "snippets of it out throughout the day."
NBC has yet to decide whether or not it will live-stream the closing ceremony, but Lazarus said that the company is "leaning" towards doing so since it's "much more of a party than a theatrical performance."
