My Little Pony: Pinkie Pie Lands a Musical Episode and More Season 4 Scoop

The key word for the next season of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is "more." At the packed Comic-Con panel for The Hub's cult-favorite cartoon series, story editor Meghan McCarthy revealed that Season 4 will feature more songs and more opportunities for the second tier characters to get screentime. And although new episodes won't premiere until the winter, the bronies and pegasisters present were in good spirits after an impromptu sing-along of the theme song and an exclusive four-minute look at unfinished animatics.

Joining McCarthy were Hasbro's VP of Development Mike Vogel, supervising director Jayson Thiessen, composer Daniel Ingram and voice stars Tara Strong (Twilight Sparkle), Andrea Libman (Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy) and Cathy Weseluck (Spike).

Check out the scoop on Season 4:

Songapalooza:McCarthy admitted that she tortured Ingram by requesting a ridiculous number of songs, which he reduced to a mere 15-20 for Season 4. Song-wise, he's the "most proud" of his work for the season so far and revealed that numerous background characters -- that may or may not include Derpy Hooves and DJ Pon-3, aka Vinyl Scratch -- will get a chance to sing.

Oh so Rarity: McCarthy swore that Rarity will get an episode in Season 4. And there will definitely be more Derpy Hooves (watch the My Little Pony: Equestria Girls end credits) and zebra herbalist Zecora.

Emmy snubs and surprises

Pinkie Pie's time to shine: Vogel spilled that a musical episode will center on Pinkie Pie, and that "somebody will give her a run for her partying money." In addition, Pinkie Pie's sister will visit Ponyville.

More scrapes for Spike: The dragon assistant will get into more predicaments that are "more uncomfy that before," Weseluck said.

My Little Pony abides: McCarthy confirmed that more movie references in the vein of The Big Lebowski are planned.

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic returns in late 2013.
