Just four years after the original Skins burst onto the scene in England, the risqué teenage drama is coming to America thanks to MTV.
The series, which is going into its fifth season in the U.K., follows a group of English teenagers between the ages of 16 and 19, while they battled issues involving substance abuse, sexual exploration, family drama, mental illnesses and more. MTV is hoping to redo the series, tailored for U.S. teens. It will premiere in January.
Judging by the trailer — which looks like a shot-by-shot remake of the original pilot — the show will be a huge gamble. Skins is a gritty drama with mature themes, and it will have to find viewers on a lineup that includes the often-drunken antics of the Jersey Shorecast.
