Monica Raymund Says Her Hightown Character Is Drastically Different than Gabby on Chicago Fire

Though we miss Gabriela Dawson dearly on Chicago Fire, Monica Raymund's new role has us more excited than ever to watch her take on a vastly different character.

Starz announced Monday that Jerry Bruckheimer's Hightown, formerly known as P-Town, starring Raymund as the lead, has officially been picked up to series and will begin production in March. The opioid crime drama is set amidst the drug trade on Cape Cod and Raymund appears as Jackie, a lesbian National Marine Fisheries Services officer. When a body washes ashore in the seemingly idyllic locale, the state cops want Jackie nowhere near the case, but she is determined to help solve the murder.

TV Guide spoke to Dawson earlier this year about her new role, and how it differs from the one we've come to know and love on Chicago Fire for the past six years.

"I'm excited to be a part of something that is rich and complex in character and also dealing with the opioid epidemic," Raymund told TV Guide. "It's very much deep in the world of that, which is obviously a ubiquitous problem. Also, being able to have the opportunity to play a Latina of color who is also queer. My character Jackie is trying to recover and she's also dealing with drugs and alcohol. So there are a lot of obstacles to overcome for her. That's what the most drastic difference is, that with Jackie [...], she's being faced with a lot of obstacles to overcome. Having an opportunity to play that out, someone who's dealing with issues that are very personal for millions of people in the world, I take it very seriously."

Additionally, Starz also announced it has ordered to series P-Valley, a series based on Katori Hall's play Pussy Valley, about the lives of strip club dancers working in the Dirty Delta.
