First Look: Jack McBrayer Finds the Middle Ground

As if three crazy kids weren't enough for The Middle's harried mom, Frankie Heck (Patricia Heaton). The recently anointed dental assistant will gain another immature charge on the April 10 episode of the ABC comedy: her new boss, Ted Goodwin, DDS, played by 30 Rock alum Jack McBrayer.
"He's a man-child," McBrayer says. "He's a very good dentist, but he's just not able to take care of himself or his ­office." (Which explains the Converse Chuck Taylors hanging from his coat rack.) "Frankie is going to mother him to success. It's going to be just what the doctor ordered."
For Ted, at least. McBrayer, who's returning for a second episode in May, admits Dr. Goodwin is not the kind of dentist he would choose. "I need a stoic, very professional dentist," he says. "Just take care of my mouth!"
