"When they go low, we go high"

Something incredible happened at the first night of the Democratic National Convention. After the negativity and fear-fueled Republican National Convention, First Lady Michelle Obama delivered a speech that was full of hope and optimism -- a speech that is already being called "one of the finest speeches" at a convention, ever.

Without naming names, Obama condemned Donald Trump and "the hateful language that we hear from public figures on TV," declaring she and husband President Barack Obama have taught their daughters: "Our motto is, 'When they go low, we go high."

Obama went on to praise how Hillary Clinton has conducted herself in the political spotlight, despite how she is constantly picked apart. "When she didn't win the nomination eight years ago, she didn't get angry or disillusioned," Obama said, seemingly taking a dig at Bernie Bros. "Hillary did not pack up and go home, because as a true public servant, Hillary knows this is so much bigger than her own desires and disappointments."

Here's how you can watch the Democratic National Convention

Describing Clinton as a woman "who has the guts and the grace to keep coming back and putting those cracks in that highest and hardest glass ceiling until she finally breaks through," a visibly emotional Obama discussed how Clinton has already had a profound and positive effect on our country.

"This is the story of this country, the story that has brought me to this stage tonight, the story of generations of people who felt the lash of bondage, the shame of servitude, the sting of segregation, but who kept on striving and hoping and doing what needed to be done so that today, I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves and I watch my daughters -- two beautiful, intelligent, black young women -- playing with their dogs on the White House lawn," Obama said. "And because of Hillary Clinton, and all our sons and daughters, now take for granted that a woman can be president of the United States.

"So don't let anyone ever tell you that this country isn't great, that somehow we need to make it great again, because this right now is the greatest country on earth."
