Wedding Weekend at Melissa & Joey's

Weddings may take a lot of planning and preparation, but that isn't the case with ABC Family's Melissa & Joey. Following a shotgun proposal only a few episodes ago, the couple is getting ready to tie the knot in what will be a three-episode wedding event beginning this Wednesday, June 4. Of course given the short time frame — and the fact that it's Joe (Joey Lawrence) and Mel (Melissa Joan Hart) — not everything goes according to plan. In this week's episode Joe sees Mel in her wedding dress, leading her to get rid of it and find a new one. At the same time, Joe's bachelor party leaves someone injured.

"We start to get married in the first one, but there's going to be some complications that arise," Hart says. "[Mel] doesn't think she can pull off the wedding until she clears up some stuff. So there's going to be some honest moments and some discoveries that are going to come across in the first episode."

Of course, no wedding is complete without a whole host of family members descending on the celebration. This episode sees the return of Joe's family, including his mother Gloria (Faith Prince) and brother Tony (real life brother Matthew Lawrence) and Mel's father, Russell (Christopher Rich).

They aren't the only guest stars set to make an appearance. "This episode we introduce a few new characters, including guest star Brooke Burke," as Joe's ex-girlfriend, says Hart. "She's going to be an integral part of what happens in the future."

The focus of this season-ending arc won't be on the wedding alone. Lennox (Taylor Spreitler) and Ryder (Nick Robinson), Mel's niece and nephew, will have their own problems to deal with that weekend. Lennox is caught in a love triangle between her boyfriend Zander and Joe's visiting nephew Marco (Kevin Fonteyne).

The finale "concludes in a big crescendo," says Lawrence. "And it's certainly going to leave some questions to be answered come next season."

Melissa & Joey airs on Wednesdays at 8/7c on ABC Family.
