With Luke Cage on the books, Netflix is turning to the next piece of the Marvel puzzle that will eventually form the Defenders superhero team-up (along with Daredevil and Jessica Jones): Iron Fist, coming next spring. The cast and producers of the series about a kung fu superhero (kung fuperhero?) descended on New York Comic Con Saturday to show off some brand new footage, drop a trailer and announce some big casting news.

Cast members Finn Jones, David Wenham, Jessica Henwick, Jessica Stroup, Tom Pelphrey and the ubiquitous Rosario Dawson -- who's showing up as Claire Temple again -- were at the panel moderated by Marvel Head of TV Jeph Loeb. Filming was completed on Iron Fist jut that morning, so the actors were seeing the new footage for the first time at the same time as the audience, and they all crouched at the edge of the stage when the screens went live to get a better look at the footage.

The (Comic Con-exclusive, sorry) clips themselves were exciting, showing Danny Rand's (Jones) return to New York after many years of training -- everyone thought he was dead. But not only is he still alive, he's now a kung fu master. Three fight scenes were shown: a brawl with security guards at Rand Enterprises HQ for which Rand is barefoot, a signature Marvel hallway fight with an Iron Fist twist (he's like a deadly ballerina), and a cage match between petite, white-jumpsuited ass-kicker Colleen Wing (Henwick) and two goons almost twice her size. You heard it here first: Colleen Wing is going to be your next Marvel obsession.

The fight scenes are the gritty Marvel/Netflix fights we've come to expect. There's lots of bones snapping and blood spurting, and you wince in pain watching it. There were some character scenes screened too, between Rand and the people who left him for dead and aren't too happy he's back.

During the panel, Loeb introduced the first full trailer for the series.

Mike Colter, Krysten Ritter and Charlie Cox also joined Jones onstage at the end of the panel. It was the first time all four Defenders -- Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Daredevil and Iron First -- had appeared in public together. They announced that the villain on the forthcoming Defenders team-up will be played by Sigourney Weaver.

Marvel's Iron Fist premieres on Netflix Friday, March 17, 2017.
