Mike & Molly Creator Calls Marie Claire Blog Post "Hateful"

Mike & Mollycreator Marc Roberts responded to a Marie Claire blog post criticizing the CBS sitcom and the portrayal of overweight people on television, calling it "hateful."

In the post, titled "Should 'Fatties' Get a Room? (Even on TV?)," sex-and-relationship blogger Maura Kelly said overweight TV characters shouldn't be intimate because they gross her out.

"I think I'd be grossed out if I had to watch two characters with rolls and rolls of fat kissing each other ... because I'd be grossed out if I had to watch them doing anything," Kelly wrote in a post Monday. "To be brutally honest, even in real life, I find it aesthetically displeasing to watch a very, very fat person simply walk across a room."

The entry has since received 1,300 comments online, many from readers upset with the article's tone. Some even said they were canceling their Marie Claire subscriptions because of the piece and called for a boycott of the publication until Kelly was axed.

"It just makes me sad," Roberts told The Hollywood Reporter. "I struggled with weight all my life and I don't know how to address this without being angry with somebody else's stupidity about other human beings."

Marie Claire Editor-in-Chief Joanna Coles apologized Wednesday for the post. "Maura Kelly is a very provocative blogger," she told Fashionista.com. "She was an anorexic herself and this is a subject she feels very strongly about."

According to Coles, the magazine has received more than 28,000 e-mail responses. Kelly has since updated the entry, apologizing for being "insensitive" and coming off as a "bully."
