Mariah Carey Will Finally Cameo on Empire

That long-teased Mariah Carey appearance on Empire is finally happening: Carey will cameo on the Fox musical drama October 5, as just announced during the networks Television Critics Association Summer Tour presentation.

Carey will play Kitty, an A-list music star (way to stretch, Mariah!) who comes to Empire Entertainment to collaborate with Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett) on a new track. Kitty helps Jamal dig deep when they hit a roadblock, assisting him in overcoming personal difficulties and helping him reach a breakthrough.

Carey joins a list of guest stars this season that include Taye Diggs, rapper French Montana and music mogul Birdman, playing himself. Earlier this week, Carey brought the house down at the TCA Summer Tour when she held a raucous panel for upcoming E! show Mariah's World.

Season 3 of Empire begins Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 9/8 on Fox. Mariah's appearance will air Wednesday, Oct. 5.
