Mackenzie Phillips Arrested for Drug Possession

Mackenzie Phillips was arrested on suspicion of drug possession at Los Angeles International Airport Wednesday morning, police confirm to TVGuide.com. "She was being screened at 10 a.m. by TSA [Transportation Security Administration], and during a secondary screening, police found what appeared to be a small amount of heroin and cocaine on her," a rep for LAX security told TVGuide.com. The 48-year-old actress was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance and remains in police custody. Bail has not been set yet. The daughter of John Phillips, of The Mamas and the Papas, Phillips was cast as the raw, troubled older daughter on One Day at a Time, playing against Valerie Bertinelli as the angelic younger sister. She was arrested for cocaine possession during the show's run, and was suspended and then fired. She came back to the show in 1981, but was written off during the ninth and final season because of a drug problem. After several stints in rehab, Phillips became sober in 1992 and has since spoken out about her history of drug abuse. She told USA Weekend in 1999 that she rolled joints as a child for her rock-star dad. "I grew up in glorious mansions, but everything was dirty and broken," she said.
