The beautiful pearl Calvin Klein dress worn by Lupita Nyong'o at the Oscars has been returned to the hotel from where it was stolen, TMZ reports. The reason the thieves brought it back? They say the pearls are fake!

Earlier this week, Nyong'o's rep reported that the dress, said to be worth $150,000, had been taken from her hotel room in Los Angeles. On Friday, the anonymous thief called TMZ to report that he had taken the dress after noticing the door to the Oscar winner's hotel room was ajar. He said that he and some cohorts took two pearls from the dress to the garment district, where they were told the jewels were fake. The thief then returned the dress in a garbage bag and left it in a bathroom at the hotel.
A Calvin Klein source told TMZ that no one from the company ever said the pearls were real and that it was Nyong'o's stylist who valued the gown at $150,000. The source added, "Do they really make dresses out of real jewels since Cleopatra died?"
In a statement to People, Francisco Costa, Women's Creative Director of Calvin Klein Collection, confirmed the dress was returned and added, "This was an amazing collaboration between the brand and Lupita and the dress looked truly exquisite on her. Once it's returned to us, we will be able to have the dress restored and archived, as it now represents an important moment for the brand."
Added Nyong'o, "I'm happy that it has been potentially recovered. It is a timeless and priceless piece of art."
