Sci-fi fans rejoice: The long-awaited Lost in Spacereboot has finally found a home on Netflix.
Deadline reports that Netflix's reboot of the 1965 classic will be about a family from Earth that struggles to stay together and survive after getting lost in an alien universe.
The new Lost in Space will be written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, writers of the 2014 film Dracula Untold. They'll also executive-produce along with Kevin Burns, who holds the rights to the original and has worked to get the reboot off the ground for years. A previous version went to pilot in the 2003-04 season but never became a series; a film version was released in 1998. The latest iteration has been in development since last year.
The original Lost in Space was set in 1997, which at the time was 30 years into the future. On the show, the U.S. sends a family on a journey to another planet in an effort to colonize deep space, but the plan goes awry when a foreign agent sabotages the mission. The ship veers off course and the Robinsons become, you guessed it, lost in space. It aired on CBS for three seasons and ended after 83 episodes.
